Faculty Appointment in Japanese Studies

Stanford University seeks candidates for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in the social sciences, whose teaching and research are focused on contemporary Japan. All applicants in the social sciences and history with expertise in Japan will be considered. The position will be jointly held in the School of Humanities and Sciences and in the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, with a possible start date of September 1, 2010. 

Applicants should possess a strong research background. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership for further development of the study of Japan at Stanford University. Applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position should include a CV, writing sample of approximately 25 pages, and full dossier including at least three letters of reference. Applicants for tenured associate and full professor appointments should send a CV and the names and current addresses of at least three referees, by November 30, 2009.
