In the span of one day, two major disasters—a tsunami and an earthquake—struck Indonesia, leaving hundreds of people dead or missing. Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa declined offers of aid from the United States and the Philippines, implying that Indonesia has the capacity to handle the rescue and clean-up efforts on its own.
