To our friends, colleagues, and affiliates in Japan, the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (Shorenstein APARC) extends its deepest sympathy and support in the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that took place on March 11. You have been in our thoughts as we have watched news of the recovery efforts unfold and we have been grateful for the contact that we have had with many of you, confirming your safety amidst the difficulties that you have endured and those still facing Japan during this period of recovery.

Shorenstein APARC's ties to Japan are longstanding, and from faculty to staff, these events have touched everyone at the center. We admire the strength and calmness with which the people of Japan are coming together to help one another and to move forward with life despite the staggering loss and destruction that you have so recently witnessed. Despite these hardships, we are confident that you as individuals and Japan as a nation will persevere and emerge as strong as ever.

We have always valued our friendship with each of you, and now, more than ever, it is important that you know that we will continue to provide support to you in any way that we can.
