Research Interests
South Korean democratization, US/ROK relations, and East Asian reconciliation


Hilary Izatt joined the Korean Studies Program in September of 2008. She is currently assisting Dr. Gi-Wook Shin in his research dealing with South Korean democratization, US/ROK relations, and East Asian reconciliation.

Prior to joining the Korean Studies Program at Shorenstein APARC, Izatt lived in Busan South Korea as a proselyting missionary for the LDS Church where she gained a proficient knowledge of the Korean language; speaking, reading, and writing. Following her service there, she worked for the Fulbright East Asian Visiting Scholar program in Washington D.C. Izatt holds a BA in International Relations and Political Science from Brigham Young University and an MA in Korean Studies and Politics of Development from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. During her Masters program, Hilary focused primarily on North Korean economic development as well as initiated and published a research project and paper dealing with cultural genocide during the Japanese colonization of Korea.
